Well, after spending literally all day yesterday creating beautiful, Metadata subscriptions, watchers, responses, and Episode Input Monitors for all of my editors - Episode decided to take a complete shit. This all happened at about 4:45pm (15 minutes after I was supposed to have left for CAP). After spending about 15 minutes on the phone with Telestream support (the best phone support I've ever received) - we decided to rev Episode back to 5.0.1 from the "stable" beta release we had been running.
I have to admit, I am really surprised that they've released a product in this kind of state. It basically requires constant monitoring to ensure it's working properly. This thing does not just work - it is less like a refrigerator and more like a nuclear reactor (which require constant monitoring).
I believe that they will get it stabalized (I'm assured this by my helpful support tech) but until then, it's a real pain in the ass. Not to mention the fact that it currently doesn't pass accurate timecode so for 75% of what we need it for here at Pixel, it's useless.
I want to be clear here - I'm not saying it's not eventually going to be a very worthwhile product - it's just not at the moment.
